Spring King live at Plug, Sheffield Review

Spring King played at The Plug, Sheffield on 15th October with support from Get Inuit and The Magic Gang.

Get Inuit

Get Inuit were the perfect opening act for the evening, with their fast paced indie-punk tracks like ‘Pro Procrastinator’ bringing the Plug to life, and it didn’t die down for the rest of the night.

The Magic Gang

Next up were The Magic Gang, who played tracks from their self titled EP, as well as their recent release ‘The Second EP from’ with their track from that EP ‘All This Way’ being the highlight of their set for me, with it being one of those songs that is almost impossible not to sing along to.

Having seen Spring King at Leeds fest earlier in the year, I knew how good they were live, and I thought I knew how crazy the crowd would get. Almost from the first song I was proved wrong. It’s always a great feeling to see a band surprised to see how good a crowd is, and drummer and singet Tarek Musa was very rightly so happy with Sheffield’s reaction.

The band played a blistering set, with album tracks from their debut LP ‘Tell Me If You Like To’, including the title track, getting the crowd moving as much as their big hitters like ‘Who Are You?’ and ‘City.’

Tarek’s coming after you.

‘They’re Coming After You’ was a highlight of the set for me, with Tarek leaving his drum kit to get the crowd singing along, which they dutifully did.

If they keep this standard of live show going, they should quickly, ahem, spring to the top.

5/5

Spring King are still on tour, with dates at Birmingham, Nottingham, Stoke and Manchester, Oxford, Southsea, Bristol and London still to come.
