I gave Scunthorpe based band Carol Lake some quick questions;
What is the best gig you have had so far and why?
My favourite show so far has to be when we played with our good friends the Crookes at Cafe indiependent. It was our first outing as Carol Lake and to play such a great venue in front of so many people was really something
Where is the furthest you have travelled from home to play?
As we’re still a fairly new outfit, we’re really trying to establish ourselves locally at the minute. I think that bands can sometimes rush to play further a field and can then find it more difficult to establish a good following. We’re all from Scunthorpe and are eager to give our fellow townsfolk the opportunity to see us as much as possible in the coming months.
If you had to cover another album in entirety, what would it be and why?
I’d love to cover Paul Simon’s Graceland. I just think it’s such a significant album and would be a lot of fun to tap into the whole African highlife vibe
Where would be the dream venue for you to headline?
I’ve always liked the idea of playing South by Southwest. Since being in Bands, I’ve always followed the lineup and thought how great it would be to be asked to hop on a plane and be part of this creative community for a week.
If you had to pick, what would your favourite album be?
I really struggle with this question. I’ve been through so many different musical phases that I have a really diverse taste. I could never give you a single album unfortunately. This week I’ve been on a jazz kick so I’d say Miles Davis – Kind of Blue, last week was Wu Tang Clan – Enter the Wu Tang (36 chambers). In recent years though the stand out albums that I’ve really enjoyed are Makeout videotape – Ying Yang and Alex G – Beach Music.
