I asked some pals that I interviewed what their favourite Christmas song is and why;
Anything I wake up and play that day, preferably Slipknot – Vermillion, because I like waking up and blaring heavy metal so it gets me in the angriest state ever, just so there’s extra ‘umpth’ when I tear open those sacks (not ball bags.)
Probably ‘I Believe In Father Christmas’ by Greg Lake cause the guitar part is really beautiful and I love that the main melody from the Troika from Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé is incorporated into the song.
Potentially ‘Santa Baby’ cause we did a fuzzy rendition of it for a radio show last year, but Bryn also enjoys Reuben’s ‘Christmas is Awesome’
Sure, might be hard for me to choose one though, I’m sort of an Xmas music expert, if you check out “juffage’s festive party” on mixcloud I have a few Xmas mixtapes!!
I guess off the top of my head, for a total classic, it’s hard to beat “white christmas” by Otis Redding.
It’s Sleigh Ride by the Ronettes. Instantly makes me feel happy, amazing production and their vocals are perfect.
Blush: my (ben) favourite song is last christmas by wham because it bangs.
Easy one for me. Wham’s Last Christmas. Got a lot of time for a bit of Wham. Judge me all u like. George Micheal is a proper cool fella and the video is out and out class. Proper festive with a lovely slice of 80sness.
Wham- Last Christmas is my favourite Christmas song.
It’s so perfectly melancholic and festive at the same time. It captures the feeling really well, that’s a hard task.
Fairytale Of New York would have to be our fave.
Is this Christmas? By the Wombats because they’re one of our favourite bands and it’s a greeeeat song! Also fairytale of New York by the Pogues because it’s a classic.
It’s “I heard the bells on christmas day” but sung by David Bazan from this compilation called “Maybe This christmas tree” other than that, general faves are Sleigh Ride, Silent Night, I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.
